About New Star Lighting

Founded in 1986, New Star Lighting designs and manufactures high-performance lighting fixtures used in commercial, industrial, correctional, healthcare, and architectural applications. Their reputation for quality, durability, and innovation meant their website needed to serve as more than just a digital catalog — it had to be a powerful tool for customers, specifiers, and agents alike.

The Project

New Star Lighting approached us to modernize their digital presence, improve content management for their internal team, and enhance the overall user experience for customers searching for products or connecting with regional sales agents.

Key Highlights

Rich Taxonomy Structure

One of the standout technical aspects of this project was the implementation of an extensive taxonomy system. We built out 12 distinct taxonomies to organize the vast range of lighting products and related content. From product families and applications to certifications and fixture types, these taxonomies empower users to filter and discover products quickly while giving New Star’s team the flexibility to maintain and expand the product catalog as their offerings evolve.

Custom Agent Locator

New Star Lighting’s business relies heavily on regional sales representatives. To serve this audience, we developed a custom agent locator — a highly interactive feature integrated with Google Maps. Visitors can search by state, region, or county to locate agents who serve their area. This isn’t a simple map embed; it’s a sophisticated solution that visually displays agent territories, helping customers connect quickly with the right sales resources.

Custom Vue Component for Agent Management

Behind the scenes, managing agent territories posed an interesting challenge. County-level data in the U.S. can be complex, with thousands of entities to track and assign. To simplify this for New Star’s team, we built a custom Vue.js component inside Statamic’s Control Panel. This bespoke tool lets site administrators easily assign counties to agents, streamlining the maintenance of territories and ensuring the front-end map always reflects up-to-date coverage.
