Type "AEO agency Tacoma" into a search box and the results thin out fast. Few shops keep an office in Pierce County. Fewer still can show an AI citation they earned for a client.
That scarcity is useful information. It means Tacoma buyers must check claims more carefully than buyers in bigger markets. A dentist in Proctor or a tire shop on Pacific Avenue cannot assume a "Tacoma" page means real Tacoma work.
This list profiles five agencies that serve Tacoma businesses and name AI search work on their own sites. One is based in University Place, next door to Tacoma. The others work from Bothell, Seattle, and Redmond.
We read each agency's website in October 2026. To make the list, an agency had to name AEO, GEO, or AI visibility work. It also had to name Tacoma or Pierce County.
Ravenna is our company, and we flag it plainly.
Tacoma's AEO agencies at a glance
Ravenna is a Bothell consultancy that sells AEO as a named monthly retainer. That One Firm is a University Place husband-and-wife shop that leads with a paid AI visibility audit. Listing Studios is a Seattle agency with a dedicated Tacoma page and a six-layer method.
Verti Group International is a Redmond firm that rebuilt its practice around generative engine optimization. Visualwebz is a Seattle web design and SEO shop with Tacoma projects and AEO services. Each one suits a different kind of buyer.
| Platform | Starting Price | Best For | Key Differentiator | Free Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ravenna | $750/mo (up to $2,500) | Local service businesses that want AEO tied to site fixes | Hand-written schema and a four-phase audit-to-monitor process | Free AI visibility audit |
| That One Firm | Audit from $500; retainers from $450/mo | Owner-operators who want a low-cost diagnostic first | Audit-first pricing and "Agent Ready" site setup | No (paid audit) |
| Listing Studios | Not published | Service businesses that want AEO, local SEO, and visitor capture together | Six-layer "Level Up Method" and a dedicated Tacoma page | Free 30-minute strategy call |
| Verti Group International | Not published | Businesses that want a long-running GEO specialist | "Share of Model" tracking and Tacoma GEO page | Free strategic website audit |
| Visualwebz | Not published (quote form from "Below 1k") | Small businesses that want web, SEO, and AEO from one vendor | Tacoma web projects plus named AEO and GEO services | Free SEO analysis and proposal |
Prices come from each agency's own site. Where a firm publishes nothing, the table says so.
Why Tacoma is worth optimizing for AI answers
Tacoma is a mid-sized city with a connected population. The U.S. Census Bureau's Tacoma QuickFacts estimate 229,816 residents as of July 2025. It also shows 92.8 percent of households with a broadband subscription.
That mix rewards early movers. A smaller city usually has fewer competitors per category than Seattle. A well-structured business can claim a spot in an AI answer before rivals try.
Traditional SEO ranks your page in a list. AEO aims to get your business named inside the answer. Ravenna's plain-English AEO guide explains how assistants choose sources and why consistent business details matter.
Tacoma's South Sound geography adds a twist. A customer in Lakewood, Puyallup, or Gig Harbor may ask for a "Tacoma" provider and mean a wider area. Agencies should show they understand Pierce County, not just one zip code.
How to vet a Tacoma AEO agency
Start with proof you can test. Ask for a prompt where a client was missing and a prompt where it now appears. Then run both prompts yourself in more than one assistant.
Check the technical basics next. Schema.org's LocalBusiness type defines properties such as opening hours, price range, and area served. A competent agency should explain which properties it adds and why.
Watch for mass-produced city pages. Google's spam policies define scaled content abuse as generating many pages mainly to manipulate rankings. A Tacoma page that only swaps the city name is a warning sign.
Finally, apply the same vetting you would use for any local agency. Our Tacoma local SEO agencies comparison covers references, reporting, and account ownership. Those basics matter just as much for AI work.
1. Ravenna: Hand-written schema and monthly mention tracking
Fair warning: Ravenna is our company, so we are not a neutral judge. We held it to the same checks as the other four, and we list its gaps below.
Ravenna is a Bothell, WA consultancy formed in 2007. It builds Laravel and Statamic platforms, and it now sells answer engine optimization to local service businesses. Tacoma is one of four named markets, alongside Seattle, Everett, and Spokane.
The team works from the Puget Sound area and offers in-person meetings on the west side. Its AEO page uses electricians in Tacoma as an example. The same engineers who build its Laravel and Statamic sites handle the AEO fixes.
What you get
Ravenna's answer engine optimization service runs in four phases. An audit asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews what they say about your business. Engineers then add schema, restructure key pages, and fix speed and crawl problems.
The third phase earns mentions on sources AI engines cite, grows reviews, and publishes answer-focused content. The fourth tracks AI mentions every month. The retainer also covers "near me" AI answers, which matter for Tacoma trades.
Ravenna writes its schema by hand instead of using a plugin. The same team that writes the code plans the content, so fixes ship without a handoff. Its AEO page says "if we can't measure it, we don't sell it."
What it costs
AEO retainers run $750 to $2,500 a month, depending on your market and how much foundation work the site needs. Many clients bundle AEO with local SEO at a combined rate. Every engagement starts with a free AI visibility audit.
Ravenna's local SEO retainers are month to month. Its AEO page does not state contract length, so confirm terms before you sign. Separate engineering work runs $150 to $199 an hour with a $5,000 project minimum, according to Clutch.
Where it falls short
The team is small, and it has no Tacoma office. Work is remote, apart from meetings on the west side of Puget Sound. A buyer who wants a storefront agency down the street should look elsewhere.
The AEO proof is thin. The service page shows one testimonial, and it cites no measurable results. It also offers no independent data on how often AI tools recommend local businesses.
Proof and reputation
Clutch lists a 4.9 rating from four verified reviews. That is credible, but it is a small base.
The clearest local-style proof is Sun Mountain Lodge. A WordPress theme rebuild there raised Lighthouse speed to 91 from the 60s.
Ravenna's Amazon and Blue Origin work was software and web development, not AEO. Treat those names as proof of engineering depth only. The firm also publishes two free Statamic add-ons: an AI bot analytics tool and an LLMS.txt Generator.
2. That One Firm: An audit-first approach from University Place
That One Firm is a husband-and-wife agency in University Place, just west of Tacoma. Chris and Leah serve South Sound businesses and take clients nationwide. The site splits its work into web and apps, media and ads, AI visibility, and "Agent Ready" setup.
It is the only firm here based in the Tacoma area. It is also the only one that sells a standalone AI audit at a published price. That makes it easy to test the idea cheaply.
What you get
The AI Visibility Audit is a one-time snapshot. It shows how assistants describe you, who they recommend instead, and what to fix first.
It includes a mention scan across providers such as ChatGPT-class tools, Gemini, and Perplexity. The provider set varies by week.
Deliverables include a check on whether assistants describe your services, territory, and credentials correctly. You also get a competitor short-list and a source map of the reviews and directories models cite. A prioritized fix list follows, and a 30-minute call or written summary closes the job.
Monthly plans follow. The Lite tier covers AI mention monitoring, description accuracy fixes, basic review operations, and a one-page scorecard. Agent Ready sets up llms.txt and forms that AI agents can use to request quotes or book calls.
What it costs
The audit starts at $500, and the offer page says typical jobs run $500 to $900. Turnaround is three to five business days after intake. The Lite plan costs $450 to $750 a month on a month-to-month basis.
The Growth plan runs $1,750 to $2,750 a month and adds lead care. Those are the lowest published entry prices on this list. The audit page excludes full site rebuilds, ad management, and guaranteed rankings.
Where it falls short
The scope is narrow by design. If you need broad content marketing or a rebrand, this is not a one-stop shop. The audit is a diagnostic, so you still need someone to carry out the fixes.
The site gives no founding year, no team beyond the two owners, and no customer reviews. It also lists no case results for AI visibility. Ask for references before you commit to a retainer.
Proof and reputation
Named projects include a multisite redesign for a cannabis shop network and work tied to a South Sound radio station. The firm lists home inspectors, real estate photographers, and transition services among its core clients. Those are owner-operated businesses that depend on quick answers.
The proof is project-based, not review-based. We found no third-party rating tied to its AI work. Treat it as a low-cost way to get evidence, not as a proven results shop.
3. Listing Studios: A six-layer method with a Tacoma page of its own
Listing Studios is a Seattle agency led by founder Tina Somsith, whom the site describes as a Certified AI Consultant. It sells two services. One is SEO and AI visibility, and the other is website visitor intelligence.
A dedicated page targets Tacoma. Others cover Pierce County and Washington State. The site says it also works with clients nationally.
What you get
The SEO and AI visibility service covers traditional SEO, AEO, GEO, local SEO, and voice search. The site defines AEO as appearing in Google AI Overviews and AI-generated answers. It defines GEO as being cited across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok.
Work follows a proprietary "Level Up Method" with six layers. They are research, technical fixes, visibility infrastructure, content, authority building, and monitoring.
The Tacoma page names Downtown Tacoma, Hilltop, the Proctor District, and Stadium. Its FAQ mentions Puyallup, Lakewood, and Gig Harbor.
A local SEO package covers Business Profile optimization, citation building, posts and Q&A, review management, and heatmap rank tracking. The visitor intelligence tool identifies anonymous site visitors and adds their details to a shared spreadsheet. Ask how that data is collected and stored before you agree.
What it costs
Listing Studios does not publish prices. The only offer is a free 30-minute strategy call, and quotes follow from there. Expect a scoped proposal, not a rate card.
The site says SEO and AI visibility typically show movement in 60 to 90 days. That is a useful benchmark to hold the agency to. Ask what happens if the timeline slips.
Where it falls short
The public proof is limited to one named case study. It involves an Amazon FBA brand, not a Tacoma business. The page gives no sample size or method for its headline numbers.
The agency is based in Seattle, not Pierce County. The site also shows no links to third-party review platforms or review counts. Request references from a service business in your category.
Proof and reputation
The featured case study, Dear Household, reports an SEO score rising from 0 to 94 percent in 60 days. It also lists seven keywords in Google's top ten and a 52 percent AI citation share. These figures are self-reported, and the page notes that results vary.
The site shows five-star testimonials from several named clients. Those quotes are selected by the agency. Weigh them accordingly.
4. Verti Group International: A long-running Redmond shop rebuilt around GEO
Verti Group International is a Redmond, WA agency that says it has run SEO since 2008. Its site now leads with generative engine optimization. A Tacoma page calls the city "the high-competition business hub of the South Puget Sound."
The firm also lists city pages for Bellevue, Olympia, Seattle, and Vancouver, WA. That regional spread suits businesses that serve more than one South Sound city. It also means the Tacoma page sits beside similar pages for other cities.
What you get
Named services include Generative Engine Optimization, AI Search Visibility, a GEO Audit and Roadmap, and Entity and Map Authority work. Traditional local SEO, e-commerce SEO, and law firm SEO sit alongside them. The first step is a "forensic evaluation" of your digital footprint.
The firm says it tracks AI recommendations, citations, mentions, and source attribution. Platforms include Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. It uses a measurement idea it calls "Share of Model."
Its frameworks, Vertical Intelligence and Eagle Path, shape how it deploys the work.
What it costs
Verti publishes no prices. The calls to action are "Get A Proposal" and a free strategic website audit. Expect a quote based on market, competition, and scope.
Ask for a written list of deliverables with the proposal. Proprietary names can hide what you actually receive. A plain scope protects you.
Where it falls short
The Tacoma page is generic. It offers no Tacoma case studies, neighborhood references, or local results. It also promises first-page rankings for high-intent Tacoma phrases.
No agency controls Google's results, so treat that promise with caution. The firm's heavy use of branded frameworks can read more like marketing than a description of the work. Ask for plain deliverables and timelines.
Proof and reputation
The site claims an A+ Better Business Bureau rating with zero complaints. It links to two different BBB profile addresses, so confirm the current rating on BBB.org yourself. It also references profiles on Trustpilot, Clutch, GoodFirms, and Crunchbase.
Named clients include First Finishers, an Olympia remodeling firm. The site reports a number two organic ranking for "Olympia remodeling contractors." Other names include Eagle Pest Eliminators, Scott Gorski Aviation Aerobatics, and Natural Options Aromatherapy.
5. Visualwebz: Web design, SEO, and AEO under one Seattle roof
Visualwebz is a Seattle web design and SEO firm on Fremont Place North. It says it has worked in Tacoma since 2008. Its site says its services reach King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.
Its Tacoma pages cover web design and local SEO. Project pages include a Tacoma manufacturing website and a consignment business. That gives it visible Tacoma project history.
What you get
The SEO menu lists Organic SEO, "Mentioned by LLMs," AIO Services, Answer Engine Optimization, and Generative Engine Optimization. The Tacoma SEO page covers local SEO with Business Profile and citation work, keyword content, and technical fixes. Its only AI reference there is a short line about being mentioned by large language models.
The AEO page lists ten strategies. They include question-and-answer sections, FAQ and how-to schema, featured snippet targeting, and conversational query research. It does not say which of them the agency performs for clients.
What it costs
Visualwebz publishes no AEO pricing. Its quote form offers budget brackets from "Below 1k" to "Above 10k," but those are form options, not prices. A free SEO analysis and a free proposal come first.
The firm's website cost guide lists agency design at $5,000 to $20,000 or more. It gives no figures for AEO or GEO. Ask for AEO to be quoted as its own line.
Where it falls short
The AEO page is generic. It describes no process, deliverables, or timelines. It also promises that language models will mention your business without showing metrics.
AEO, GEO, and AIO appear as separate menu items, yet the site does not explain how they differ. Ask the team to define each term and say what you would receive. The Tacoma page barely addresses AI search.
Proof and reputation
The site shows a testimonial from Dr. Dat Nguyen of Dat Dental. Other listed client types include attorneys, medical practices, schools, and day cares. The firm links to profiles on Clutch, Google, UpCity, Thumbtack, Yelp, the BBB, and Expertise.com.
It also shows several award badges. The issuers are mostly unnamed, so treat them as self-reported. Read the linked review profiles for an independent view.
Questions Tacoma business owners ask
How is AEO different from local SEO?
Local SEO targets the map pack and "near me" results. AEO targets answers inside ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and AI Overviews. The work overlaps, so many agencies sell them together.
How much does AEO cost in Tacoma?
Published prices vary widely. Ravenna lists $750 to $2,500 a month. That One Firm lists audits from $500 and Lite plans at $450 to $750 a month.
Its Growth plans run $1,750 to $2,750 a month. The other three agencies quote after a call.
Do I need an agency based in Tacoma?
Not always. AI engines are not tied to one city, and four of these five agencies work from outside Tacoma. A local shop may know Pierce County's directories and competitors better.
How long until my business appears in AI answers?
Listing Studios says SEO and AI visibility typically move in 60 to 90 days. Ravenna says local SEO needs 90 to 180 days for meaningful movement. Treat any promise of instant results with caution.
Do I need a new website to start?
Usually not. Ravenna says a rebuild is not normally required, and an audit shows whether the current site is holding results back. That One Firm's audit also excludes full rebuilds.
What can I check before I hire anyone?
Ask several assistants for a recommendation in your category and neighborhood. Note which businesses appear and which sources they cite. Then fix any wrong details in your profile and directories.
Which Tacoma AEO agency should you hire?
A trades or service business that wants AEO tied to site fixes should start with Ravenna. Hand-written schema and a free audit lower the risk. An owner-operator who wants evidence before a retainer should price That One Firm's audit.
A service business that wants AEO, local SEO, and visitor capture in one program should talk to Listing Studios. A firm that wants a long-running GEO specialist should ask Verti Group International for a written scope. A small business that wants web design, SEO, and AEO from one vendor should review Visualwebz.
Whichever you pick, ask for a before-and-after prompt test. Book a free AI visibility audit with Ravenna to see what ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity say about your business today.
